Perenner är bra eftersom de skapar en trädgård som kräver mycket lite arbete. De utgör en utmärkt bas som kan berikas med buskar och ettårigablommor. Det finns massor av olika ettåriga växter som passar utmärkt i en alpinträdgård. Det är viktigt att inte använda för många buskar i sin alpina trädgård. Om man gör det förlorar man den alpina känslan.
